What we believe

House of Mercy Christian Assembly – Doctrinal & Ethical Statements

  1. Doctrinal Basis

House of Mercy Christian Assembly upholds a firm commitment to the foundational doctrines of the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC). Our beliefs are rooted in the unchanging truth of Scripture and the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church.

We affirm:

  1. The Authority of Scripture: The Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God, serving as the final standard for faith and conduct.
  2. The Trinity: One God in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—eternally coexisting and equal in power and glory.
  3. The Person and Work of Jesus Christ: His virgin birth, sinless life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, and ascension. He is the only Saviour of humanity.
  4. Salvation by Grace through Faith: A gift of God, received through faith in Christ alone.
  5. The Work of the Holy Spirit: Convicting, regenerating, and sanctifying believers, empowering them for godly living and ministry.
  6. The Church: The body of Christ, comprising all true believers, with local congregations committed to worship, discipleship, and mission.
  7. The Return of Christ: The personal, visible return of Jesus to judge the living and the dead.

The Sevenfold Ministry of the Spirit

House of Mercy Christian Assembly also believes in the sevenfold ministry of the Spirit, a biblical model for servant leadership in the community of faith. These ministries are:

  1. Deacon – Servants of the church, ensuring practical needs are met (Acts 6:1-7).
  2. Evangelist – Proclaimers of the gospel, bringing the message of Christ to the lost (Ephesians 4:11).
  3. Elder – Spiritually mature leaders providing oversight and guidance in the church (1 Timothy 5:17).
  4. Prophet – Those gifted by the Spirit to declare God’s truth and provide encouragement, edification, and warning (1 Corinthians 14:3).
  5. Teacher – Instructors of sound doctrine, ensuring believers grow in faith and understanding (James 3:1).
  6. Apostle – Sent ones who pioneer church planting and foundational gospel work (Ephesians 4:11).
  7. Pastor – Shepherds who care for and guide the spiritual well-being of the church (1 Peter 5:2-3).

This full spectrum of servant leadership reflects God’s divine order in building, equipping, and maturing the Church, ensuring that every believer is spiritually nurtured and prepared for kingdom work.

  1. Women in Ministry Statement

House of Mercy Christian Assembly affirms the equal dignity, value, and worth of men and women as image-bearers of God, fully engaged in the mission of the church.

We uphold:

  • Women’s active participation in various ministries, including worship, discipleship, evangelism, pastoral care, and teaching.
  • The biblical model of male eldership, meaning that the role of pastor-elders, who exercise authority in teaching and governance, is designated for qualified men (1 Timothy 2:12-13, 1 Timothy 3:1-7).
  • Women’s leadership in areas of ministry, including teaching other women and children, prayer, administration, and hospitality.

While we affirm biblical distinctions in church leadership roles, we also celebrate and encourage the diverse gifts of women in building up the body of Christ.

  1. Same-Sex Marriage Statement

House of Mercy Christian Assembly holds to the biblical definition of marriage as:

  • A lifelong covenant between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6).
  • A sacred institution reflecting Christ’s relationship with the Church (Ephesians 5:31-32).
  • Designed for companionship, procreation, and the flourishing of family life.

As a Bible-believing church, we do not conduct, affirm, or bless same-sex marriages. However, we welcome all individuals with grace and truth, offering pastoral care, support, and discipleship to those seeking to follow Christ in obedience. We remain committed to upholding biblical teaching with compassion and integrity.

  1. Gospel Unity Statement

House of Mercy Christian Assembly believes that true unity in the church is found in Christ alone and not in human traditions or preferences. Our unity is based on:

  • The Gospel of Jesus Christ – Salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone, forming the foundation of our fellowship.
  • Commitment to Sound Doctrine – While we respect differences in secondary matters, we stand firm on the essentials of biblical truth.
  • Love and Fellowship – Building relationships across denominational lines, partnering with believers in gospel mission.
  • Grace in Disagreement – Handling theological and practical differences with humility and respect, without compromising biblical truth.
  • Mission and Evangelism – A shared focus on making disciples of all nations, serving the poor, and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ.

We reject both compromise on doctrine and unnecessary division, striving to maintain unity in Christ while upholding biblical convictions.

Conclusion

House of Mercy Christian Assembly remains deeply rooted in the doctrinal convictions of the FIEC, committed to biblical truth, godly leadership, the sanctity of marriage, and the pursuit of gospel unity. Through the sevenfold ministry of the Spirit, we seek to equip and empower believers to serve faithfully and fruitfully in the work of God’s kingdom.
