Job Description

Status: Full-Time, Salaried

About This Role

The role of the App/Web Developer is to provide support and development for the church’s web-based software, including the church website and church management software. The App/Web Developer is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the House of Mercy Christian Assembly website, coordinating all web functions, and identifying and incorporating new technologies into the website. This role serves as the lead developer for custom projects (including mobile apps) and reports and assists with website updates as needed.

Primary Responsibilities and Tasks of the App/Web Developer

  1. Lead the planning and implementation of web content and design elements for the church website.
  2. Design the information architecture of the church website to ensure that site visitors are able to navigate it with ease.
  3. Serve as the expert consultant for staff in developing web content that supports the church’s mission, vision, goals, and strategic objectives.
  4. Work closely with the staff web designer to implement and maintain a consistent design for the church website.
  5. Provide ongoing technical support to visitors/users of the church website and apps.
  6. Understand and apply effective Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies to ensure that church websites are easily found in online searches.
  7. Develop monthly activity reports that show the use and effectiveness of the church’s websites and apps.
  8. Maintain network and data security including controlling user access, insuring OS security patches are tested and applied promptly, data backups, internet firewall configuration, and virus and worm prevention and elimination.
  9. Perform regular assessments of technology needs, evaluating new technology to determine if it would be beneficial for the church’s websites and install, configure, and test new hardware and software.
  10. Make recommendations to the Communications Director for the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the church’s websites and apps.

  4. Strong skills in PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and WordPress.

  6. Friendly attitude with a willingness to work collaboratively with other team members.

Your Team

  • This position reports to the Communications Director.
  • This position works closely with the staff Web Designer and Communications Coordinator and currently has no staff supervisory responsibilities.

Your Schedule

This is a full-time, salaried position around 40-45 hours a week with four days spent in the

office and one day of flexible working location.
