Sermons & Devotionals

It is important for you to know that you are much more than just body and mind; you, my friend, are a divine being, made in God’s image. Angels only have a spirit and a soul; animals only have a body and an instinct while humans are three-dimensional, having a spirit, soul and a body. This makes humans a superior being to all others that are present in the heavens and on earth.

seek true ENLIGHTENMENT and freedom

There is no doubt that we require food to survive and we desire the best clothing, money, and other material things. However, there is no need to worry about these things, because in seeking the Kingdom of God, everything else is taken care of (Matthew 6:33).

The need for worldly belongings forces us to compromise on a lot of things. A lack of freedom accompanies wealth and submission to the wants of others. The need for worldly things makes us inferior and the essence of freedom is truly lost.
On the contrary, if we have no need for worldly belongings, we will become superior beings. The need for something or someone enslaves us, but through Christ, we are freed from this fleshly bondage and reconciled to God.

This bondage is much more than social bondage; it is the bondage of spirit. Worldly problems encompass our lives, and this forces us to pay little heed towards freedom. Spiritual bondage is something much worse than social or physical slavery, and from time to time, God has warned mankind of its consequences.

You have two choices: either be a slave of worldly desires or seek true freedom. You can seek true freedom by affirming to yourself, “I am a child of God, a spiritual being saved by grace through faith, thanks to Jesus who fulfilled the law on the Cross for me. I am no longer a slave to sin, nor worldly things and I do not need them. Thanks to Christ, who lives in me, I am now free.”

A person who is a slave of worldly desires is, in fact, a slave of his or her own mind, a slave of greed, and a slave to sin. Worldly things like money, land, and other luxuries have no power over us and cannot enslave us.

Apostle Paul rightly said:
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2
In reality, it is we who enslave ourselves due to our own desires and the limitations/hurdles we set in our minds. Liberating yourself from the bonds of worldly desires will help you to recognize your divine self and seek true freedom. This can only happen if you allow Jesus Christ to transform you. We often attach ourselves to something or someone as deep down we fear that without them, we will be incomplete. We have a fear of the unknown and feel that we will be lost without the things or person we desire. These desires influence our lives so much that we often identify ourselves by associating with them. We fear that without these things or desires, we will cease to exist thus, we hold on to them dearly. This stops us from attaining true freedom, which is found in Christ.
Jesus said
“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free,” John 8:31–32.
Jesus also said
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
It is important for you to know what is meant by true freedom and how to achieve it. If Jesus is saying the truth sets you free and that He is the truth, then in order to truly be free, you must know Christ. It really is that simple!
