Job description:

House Of Mercy Christian Assembly is a registered charity running events and activities for children and young people in East London. We will be running activities such as music and dance activities for young people during the school terms and holidays commencing from September.

As a Project Support Worker, you are required to facilitate the session and assist in supervising and engaging young people during activities/ workshops. You will help set up the place and tidy up after the session and carry out monitoring and sanitising tasks.

You need to be comfortable using a tablet to check attendance of students who have signed up for our activities and carry out basic admin tasks on the day.

You will also assist staff to prepare and pack food and distribute it to children and young people attending our activities.

We have sessions running on Saturdays from 10am-3pm, ideally 6 hours per week.

The role will be based at Gascoigne Primary School.

Person specification:

• Experience of working with children and young people is essential
• Enthusiastic and friendly
• Excellent IT skills
• Ability to carry out administrative tasks with excellent attention to detail
• Good communication skills and willing to be part of a team.

The role is available for volunteers aged 18 and above.

Saturday Music School for Change Music & Arts is seeking to appoint a Music Tutor / Leader who will be responsible for leading weekly whole class instrumental teaching to students. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience delivering music in the classroom environment and have a good understanding of behavior management. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for music and the arts and have an have proven track record of delivering high-quality music lessons to primary school students.

Job Description

As a Music Tutor/Leader working for Saturday Music School for Change, you will be expected to deliver engaging instrumental lessons to the highest possible standard. You will take pride in planning exciting lessons which enthuse and inspire the children and young people that you work with and prepare any resources to support this.

Applicants should be confident, energetic and positive and have previous experience of leading Whole Class Instrumental Teaching. Please note that this role will include basic teaching of Keyboard, Drums and Guitar.

Required Skills:

• Teach high quality, inspirational instrumental lessons to Primary School children
• Have experience leading whole class instrumental delivery (Drums, Guitar, Keyboard, Percussion)
• Lead one to one and small group instrumental lessons
• Have experience in preparing students for examinations
• Be a specialist who has a strong knowledge of your subject
• Prepare all necessary planning and resources
• Successfully manage classroom behaviour with confidence

Roles and Responsibilities

Tutors prepare students for exams, passing tests and gaining qualifications. Tutors achieve this by developing the skills of their students, teaching them more about a subject and helping them to complete coursework. Tutors often help students progress from one stage of their education to the next, for example from secondary school through to university. Tutors do this either one-to-one or in a wider group setting with multiple students in a private classroom. Tutors are being increasingly employed online to teach in virtual classrooms.

• Creating lesson plans for the students
• Assessing students on their existing ability in a subject area
• Creating a schedule for further education and development in subject areas
• Assessing a student’s level of progress within a subject and identifying areas for improvement
• Providing mock examinations or tests to prepare students for real exams
• Reviewing student’s homework assignments  and test scores and working through problem questions that the student did not answer correctly
• Providing support for students during their examinations
• Communicating with parents/guardians about trouble areas or any issues that requite attention

Required Skills

Successful tutors have excellent teaching and communication skills along with an excellent knowledge of the subject and curriculum they are teaching. Tutors should have relevant qualifications in their chosen subjects to prove that knowledge.

Requirements

Tutors require strong knowledge and experience of their given subject, be it English literature, history or physics, for example. Successful Tutors will have experience creating lesson plans and providing assessments. Tutors ideally have experience teaching either on a one-on-one basis or within a wider classroom setting. Tutors may have previously taught in primary or secondary schools or worked as University Lecturers. If they do not have direct classroom or tutoring experience, then a proven ability to communicate and provide support in other settings is necessary.

Desired Experience/Qualifications

A Tutor requires a university degree, ideally in the subject that they plan to teach or in a subject with transferable knowledge and skills. For example, if a Tutor teaches Geography A levels, they need a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography or in a related subject such as natural sciences or geology. Entry-level Tutors, however do not normally require this. Many Tutors have also taken a post-graduate degree in teaching or in their subject matter.

To reach degree and postgraduate level,

• 5 GCSEs, including a GCSE in the subject they will be teaching.
• 2 or 3 A levels (1 must be English, Maths or Science depending on teaching area)
• Candidates should also have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Your Leader:  Pastor Jean-Michel, Host Team Leader

Time Required:  2-4 hours a week, including the weekend service.

Required Meetings:  2 training meetings a year + a quick check-in on the mornings you serve

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Check in at 10:15 am on weeks where you are scheduled. Be in place by 10:30 and stay in your position until 11:15. After 11:15, you can find a seat in the worship center.
2. Come each Sunday ready to meet guests. Host team members are placed on a rotating schedule to be in the three main lobbies before and after services. Be looking for people who “act new” as they enter.
3. Please be cautious to not get caught up in conversation with friends. We need you to be alert and watching for people who are new. Even when you’re not standing in your position, be alert and aware.
4. When you meet a guest, offer to sit by them during the service, visit with them over coffee, or to give them a tour of the building. Introduce them to a variety of your friends, pastors, staff or elders.
5. After the service, meet with host team leader to send texts to Guests met and any new assigned guests.

Context

House of Mercy Christian Assembly is a friendly and lively, all-age church with a family feel and a desire to know Jesus better and make him known in our community. We are emerging from the pandemic with exciting opportunities, particularly amongst our children and youth, and are looking to recruit a Children and Youth Minister to start in September.

We have regular weekly contact with around 40 under 18’s, and have recently reshaped our Sunday meetings to make them more inclusive for families and young people

The Role

• 2-year fixed-term, part-time contract (22.5 hours per week).
• Overseeing our entire Bible-based program for 0-18-year-olds, including:
  • Being pastorally responsible for the children and young people, praying for and with them
  • Being a role model through the outworking of your Christian faith in your own life
  • Line managing our two existing volunteers who run the ages 0-4 and 5-11 provisions

• Running the activities for the 12-18 age range on Sunday mornings and mid-week
• Supporting parents in their role to bring up disciples of Jesus

Required Skills

Who are we looking for?  Volunteers!

• Committed Christians who love the Lord Jesus and his word.
• Those of godly character who care more about worship from the heart than ‘show’.
• Those who play a musical instrument/sing confidently enough in front of a group and as part of a collective music group. (You don’t have to be a pro but do need to be able to play in tune, keep rhythm and be a team player!)
• Those looking to commit to serving as part of REC in the music ministry for at least a year.

Role and Responsibilities

HMCA academy is the church planting and training ministry of the House of Mercy Christian Assembly. We are looking for gospel-worker missionaries to live and serve in the Borough of Barking and Dagenham.

A gospel worker is a long-term position for men and women. The applicant will specialize in a particular area: church planter associate, women’s worker, pastoral assistant, or youth worker. Gospel workers serve as part of a church-planting team, aiming to be positive role models, faithful friends, and committed evangelists in Barking.

• Share the gospel message of the Christian faith
• Assist the Church Planter with any duties associated with establishing a healthy church
• Pastorally care for, support, and counsel individuals within the church and community
• Recruit, train, and coordinate work of volunteers and junior staff
• Disciple new believers and establish and support discipleship relationships
• Help establish new and maintain existing community contacts
• Become familiar with the needs of the area through surveys, interviews, etc.
• Assist with the development of local and international partners for financial and prayer support

Role and Responsibilities

The Outreach Coordinator assists in the development and execution of outreach programs and partnerships. This role is instrumental in helping HMCA develop and support a culture of service and compassion toward those outsides of the church.

• Plan and organize Outreach Ministry events, including coordinating the location of events, managing registrations, etc.
• Collaborate with the Communications team to accurately and effectively promote Outreach Ministry programs and events through the weekly bulletin, social media, newsletters, posters, website updates, etc.
• Develop and maintain local, national, and international mission ministry partnerships to provide service opportunities for the church.
• Develop new local outreach programs that meet the needs in the community.
• Create, lead, and manage processes that engage all age groups in the congregation to participate in outreach programs and develop a culture of service and compassion within the church.

Your Team

This position reports to the Outreach Pastor.

This position works closely with a team of mission and outreach volunteers and currently has no staff

supervisory responsibilities.

This is a part-time, hourly position around 25-30 hours a week with four days spent in the office and one day of flexible working location.

• Equip young children with the skills required to understand basic Math and Science
• Deliver instructions to the class in a clear manner
• Teach all areas of the primary and secondary curricula
• Tweak the curriculum according to the needs of the class
• Ensure that students understand the concepts properly by monitoring their progress
• Present the concept in an interesting way
• Change teaching techniques if the current technique is not working
• Motivate the children and organize resources to allow for a more positive learning environment
• Teach physical education skills to the students
• Motivate students to learn newer skills
• Encourage discussions in the classroom and guide students to stay on topic
• Maintain control in the classroom
• Plan lessons before coming to class
• Prepare assignments, tests, and exams
• Keep an attendance record
• Mark the assignments/tests/exams and provide feedback in a timely fashion
• Give feedback to the parents about their child’s progress
• If a pupil is suffering in class, alert the parents right away and come to an understanding about how to take the child forward from that point on
• Work with other teachers to plan and coordinate lessons or events.
• Be aware of any changes in the curriculum that have come up and implement them in a timely manner
• Organize any events, outings, and activities and be part of the attendance
• Meeting with professionals such as colleagues and psychologists if there is a need based on the child’s progress
• Keep the head informed of any changes in the curriculum
• Involve the head in case of a serious problem
• Attend and participate in the parents-teachers conferences
• Attend and participate in all staff meetings and events
• Train less experienced teachers if required
• Attend teacher training if there is a need
• Conduct extracurricular events such as sports, musicals, and more, to ensure more wholesome development of students
• Teach the children how to be more responsible and disciplined

Qualifications and Education Requirements

3-Year University Bachelor’s Degree Required in early childhood education. Teaching Experience preferred but not required.

Role and Responsibilities

• Go through the work orders to evaluate the food distribution activities
• Order, pickup, and receive food according to the need
• Identify who will be enrolled in the food bank program and how to accommodate them
• Help existing workers unload food properly and ensure that it’s stored
• Make sure that the food items are rotated so that they remain fresh
• Welcome food bank participants and cross-check their names from a list
• Distribute food among the people and take signatures
• Ensure the quality of the food is not compromised when distributing it
• Bring up any issues with the manager
• Create and submit a report of all the distributed food items and evaluate how much is left
• Keep all information confidential
• Implement food safety policies

3-Year University Bachelor’s Degree or Relevant Work Experience Required. Management Experience preferred but not required.

Role and Responsibilities

The Leadership Development Pastor provides training and mentorship to effectively identify, recruit, equip, develop, and empower servant leaders at HMCA. The Leadership Development Pastor maintains a ministry strategythat effectively trains people to move them from seekers to discipled leaders.

• Implement a leadership development pipeline for HMCA that clearly lays out the path to becoming a leader.
• Assist with the long-range strategic vision for the leadership development pipeline.
• Provide support and training/coaching for small group leaders as one of the vehicles for leadership development.
• Develop and deploy ministry-specific training for small group leaders and staff
• Design, oversee, and grow the internship program.
• Oversee the leadership development philosophy across all ministries at all campuses to ensure consistent language, tools, systems, and values.
• Share the pastoral load of counseling, emergencies, weddings, funerals, hospital visits, etc.
• Collaborate with staff to develop and executive ministry-specific training curriculums to help build more effective leaders to oversee ministries.
• Organize and lead regular group and individual meetings to develop mentoring relationships with potential leaders.
• Provide resources, training, events, conferences, and coaching to enhance the church-wide leadership development process

Your Team

This position reports to the Lead Pastor.

This position relates to the Secondary School Pastor and leads a team of primary school ministry volunteers (adults).

Key Performance Indicators

The strategy of the ministries that the Communications Coordinator leads reflects the overall growth strategy of the church:

• Develop disciples and leaders.
• Serve, engage and invite the community.
• Grow Small Groups who help others grow in faith.

The Primary School Pastor will be evaluated on the following three metrics:

• Recruit 2 new leaders to serve in the Primary School ministry – Identify, onboard, and train 5 new adult volunteer leaders.
• Develop a parent newsletter to send monthly – Partner with the Communications team to plan the content, layout, and execution plan for a parent newsletter.

Fully plan the 2020 calendar – Present innovative event ideas to the church leadership team. Add events (including volunteer trainings and parent info nights) to the church calendar.
